Loan at bank without cosigner

What is the best bank for me to take out a loan without having to have a cosigner with positive credit?

Do you have a history or relationship with any bank? That would be the likeliest place to start. If you’re under 18, you don’t have legal capacity to sign any binding contracts and would need an adult co signer.

The bank where you have business, a credit card, an account, usually. Bear in mind that income amount and history and length of credit history comes into the picture too.

You are 18 and going to be a college Freshman this fall at UF. No bank is going to give you an unsecured loan I’m afraid.

Would you lend money to someone with no credit history, no significant assets, and no full-time job? Probably not, and neither will a bank. They need some assurance they’ll get repaid.

OP, I really hope you are not counting on a private loan to finance UF this fall. If so you need another plan as UF is not affordable for you I’m afraid. What is your situation?

Wow, you are just now finding out you can’t afford this school???

Public banks don’t loan that kind of money to young people without co-signers. Picture it as you trying to buy a brand new car on credit-how will you repay and with what job? They conduct a credit report based on your driver’s license and ss# and that shows how well you’ve paid your bills, on time, quickly, etc. You don’t have that, so they can’t give your the car. Same with a loan.
Sorry.

It’s worse than that. With a car loan the bank can repossess the car. The OP is asking about a signature loan with no collateral. 0 chance of getting that from a bank without a credit-worthy adult co-signer.

The student is in this special new UF program that skips the Fall semester, so she’d be starting in Spring.

I don’t know if this student is OOS or if she didn’t qualify for Bright Futures or other aid. Florida is usually pretty good about providing funds for low income First Gen students, but if the OP isn’t instate then she wouldn’t get that.

I think OP is OOS.
