<p>you dont really need to tell them. Those references are just there in case you disappear and never pay back your loans. They just have some way to try and research where you are. Same kinda deal happens when you rent a place, buy/lease a car, get a credit card, etc</p>
<p>You should have told them before you put them down as references. That’s really rude of you to just assume they’d be okay with it. What if you do default or they are contacted? You just put them as responsible for your potential financial problems. It doesn’t matter if that’ll never happen or not. It was a completely irresponsible move.</p>
