Federal Perkins Loan and Recommended Subsidized Direct Loan?

Does UCSB gives out a list of prefer lenders/borrowers for us to choose from?

For both Perkins and Direct Loans, no amount will be disbursed until you submit a Loan Request Form through your file on the Financial Aid Office's website.

No deadline has been established for the Perkins Loan, but historically, it must be requested by the end of fall quarter or it will be deleted.

For Direct Loans, your eligiblity will remain as part of your academic year award until mid-May. At that time, the academic year eligibility will be removed in anticipation of summer session aid eligiblity determination.

At UCSB, a preferred lender list is only needed by students who choose to borrow alternative loans from private lenders. It is highly recommended that students utilize their federal loan eligibility before considering an alternative loan. The UC Office of the President is compiling a list of lalternative loan lenders for the campuses to use. It will be posted shortly.

When I went to orientation, they told me that there was no deadline for the loans, so you can request only a small amount, if that's what you need. My Federal Perkins loan has a cap of 1400 dollars. I don't have to accept all 1400, I could request maybe just 300 if that's what I need.

However, know that your "cap" is divided by 3, spread equally among the three quarters of the normal school year at UCSB. I can only get up to 467 dollars per quarter on my Perkins loan. You can request the money at any time throughout the quarter, but it'll take about 2 weeks to receive your money.
