Loans? (Question for current students and alumni)

I have a question for current/alumni students from SU. Did you guys take out any loans? If so, if you don’t mind answering, how much do you owe in? Do you think it was worth going to SU, overall?

I know this is a bit late to your post but I currently attend SU. I took out about 12k in loans. I’m currently in the process of transferring because I overall just don’t like the school and I’m want to go somewhere cheaper. It depends on what program/school you are in SU to say if it’s worth it. I’m in the college of arts and sciences for bio so I can go study bio anywhere.

I took out the maximum amount of loans possible. Then during my first semester I was hit with a $4,000 bill. At that point they wouldn’t let me take out anymore loans, but offered me another grant and then my mom had to take out a loan. After that I still owed about $600, I had to pay that difference. My financial situation definitely put a damper on school. I’m also not returning next year due to that and some other factors. If you think that you can handle it, then good for you, but it’s stressful and if you let it, it can affect your schoolwork. I also have work study so I’ve been working all year. It was still a hard hit for me. Thankfully I only owe about $8,000.

You can only borrow ~$5500/year. What’s the net cost (after grants, but before loans)? How much can your parents pay?
