Is it true that you can ask to turn your loans into Work study?

You can ask anything, but you have to QUALIFY to get work study, based on the FAFSA your family submitted. Generally, I believe it's pretty easy to qualify for SOME work-study, but since it is a federal program, the rules must be met. There are limits on how much work-study can be awarded in any given year & how many hours/week students can work. Your FAid office can provide more info.

i'm not sure if you were trying to be a smart ass or just helpful... but what i obviously meant was i heard that if you request to convert your loans into work study you would be allowed to... i guess ill just check in person, thx anyway

It is possible, yes, but you need to talk to people at the office to determine whether you personally are allowed to.

None of us has access to the info that would be needed to give you an answer about how your FAid was calculated & what can or can't be converted. Asking your FAid office is the best place to start. Insulting people who are trying to help you is generally a poor way to get what you need, by the way.

Malcolm: Yes you can convert your loans to Work Study if you qualify for the loans. There is a list of jobs for you to apply that are Work Study Jobs. If the UCLA financial aid website doesn't give the info on how to do it then call their office. It is easy to do it. My girlfriend is converting her loans to Work Study at another school. It's a Fed program so it should work the same at all schools. Good luck.

1st - If you read my question, I wasn't asking about a personal situation, it was a general question.

2nd - CA2006 answered my question, so my question can and was answered.

3rd - I didn't mean to insult you, I did say thank you (if you did not have intentions of being a smart ass)

and lastly, thank you again.
