Lobbying for a non-HADES "featured" thread...

@D’yer Maker: I like “Roads Less Traveled”, since I think the admins will put the “Prep School” descriptor before it for consistency in nomenclature.

BTW, I am assuming your connections within the Bunkel/CC complex will help make this Sub Forum a reality?!?

I like this too: “Roads Less Traveled.”

Gang, count me in, for all the reasons mentioned already.

– Klements, father of several Roads Less Traveled/Hidden Gems students

Hey everyone, just saw this. Is it going to happen?

I just sent the admins a bump…

I’m game. (10 char)

I have a hard time thinking of Milton or Madeira, etc. as “hidden gems.” Many of the schools people suggest aren’t hidden. They’re fine, strong schools, but they aren’t unknown to the cognoscenti.

How about, “Strong Schools?” Or, to steal shamelessly from a well-known college advice book, “Schools that Change Lives”?

We should try to include day schools as well.

Hope it works out and if not, well, people could just keep bumping this thread and maybe a couple people will pay attention to it :)

I like that idea - “schools that change lives.”

I agree with Periwinkle that many of these schools are not ‘hidden’ in any way - just overlooked because people obsess with POMP, Prestige and Pedigree (quoting D’yer Maker.)

With all due respect, I disagree with “schools that change lives.”

IMO, unlike the current situation in higher education, I believe strongly that ALL of these secondary prep schools will indeed change lives. They all have dedicated faculty that have high expectations of the students and are involved in their daily lives in a way that (99% of) public schools cannot begin to replicate. They all focus on community - no matter the % of boarding and day - each school emphasizes living and learning together and respecting each individudal in the community. And they all - at least as far as I am aware - have our children’s interest and development at the heart of their institution… as opposed to research, publishing and other such grandiose ideals of many of our more sought after universities and colleges.

What (I believe) we hope to achieve by this new thread/sub forum is to provide the opportunity for more students to find a positive school fit - regardless of how well the name might be known.

I started to say we might possibly advance the popularity of boarding school to many who thought it out of their reach… but based upon this year’s admission stats I think someone has beat us to the punch… (maybe the PS funding cuts??)

mamakiwi - the reference to “change lives” is the reference to the 40 colleges that change lives book/site.

[Colleges That Change Lives | Changing Lives, One Student at a Time](http://www.ctcl.org/)

Once the 40 colleges become overly known, the author changes the list to include new hidden gems.

Hence “hidden gems boarding schools” that are equally as good as Gladchemms and Hades.

“Schools that change lives” sounds too therapeutic to my ears. I prefer “Less Discussed Top Schools”

Here we go with semantics - “Roads Less Travelled/Hidden Gems” sounds just fine. Lets just get it into “Featured Discussions”.

I wouldn’t get too hung up on the name. Nice to see that the idea has some support among the forum members.

A thread appears to have already started. If it could get into the “Featured Section” that would be great.
