flat top: make-your-own stir fry
koi: japanese/chinese
merle's: 'american' food
wolfgang cafe: wolfgang puck restaurant
cozy noodles: BYOB thai restaurant
davis fishmarket: fish market

i've never been but other people like:
Pete Miller's: steak
Bat 17: i think it's a deli, i know it gets good reviews
Mt. Everest: indian/nepalese food
Celtic Knot: irish pub

there are so many restaurants here, evanston is sometimes called the dining capital of the north shore, you can go downtown and see what looks good to you

There are a bunch of restaurants vegetarians like, such as Blind Faith Cafe. And make your own stir fry would be a godsend to me if I were a vegetarian.

Other good restaurants: Joy Yee's (amazing, huge chinese food portions), Buff Joes (best buffalo wings around), and even the chains are good: Potbelly's, Al's Italian Beef and Jimmy John's are all frequented by students who want good cheap food.

blind faith is excellent for vegetarians/vegans. it's on dempster and chicago streets, about 6 blocks south of campus.

i hate dave's italian kitchen, have been there numerous times and wonder each time why i bothered going back. try trattoria demi or anywhere else other than dave's basically. for some classy italian, try campagnola, about 9 blocks south of campus on main st (across from the main st. el station and the firehouse grill)

for bfast/brunch, try walker bros, AMAZING bfast food and incredibly cheap, it's on the border b/e vanston and wilmette on greenbay rd, about a mile northwest of campus. don't be phased by the wait, there's always a line out the door and it always goes by in literally like ten minutes, they have an incredibly fast turnover.

also, fyi, wolfgang puck has closed, and joy yees is closed temporarily (renovations i think).

if you're in the mood for chicago deep-dish, lou malnati's, on the corner of sherman and university (a block from campus) is amazing and very reasonable. a lot of ppl prefer giordanos, a bit pricier but also excellent.

When we went to visit there was a great Italian place - you walked into a hallway and had to go downstairs. Long wait but worth it. Does this sound familiar to anyone/anyone know the name of it?

Pomegranate (Orrington Ave, just south of Church Street -- a few blocks from campus) has some good Mediterranean/Middle Eastern food that's a great value. Large-ish portions, nothing over $10 and really quite tasty... and this is coming from someone that's half Lebanese.

peta2, the youth branch of PETA, named NU the most vegetarian-friendly college in the country... i regularly eat the vegetarian and vegan choices in the dining halls and, from an omnivore's perspective, i think some of them are rather good...excellent, in fact.

Oh, good! One of my friends graduated from NW, and from what he told me, I loved the place... I hope to get in!!! But then I was worried about the food preferences, as not a lot of veggie options are available in many places... Thanks anyhow!

it really depends on what dining hall you go to, plus what meal and what time of the quarter it is. Quality is going to fluctuate depending on season and mood of dining hall staff. It really comes down to a matter of taste too.

Generally food will be fine, though i would suggest anyone who's concerned to come and try the food, at a dining hall you would likely go to at a time you would likely eat. I went to breakfast at a dining hall where i've never been to when i visited and it was horrible, but food i have daily is a lot better =)
