Local vs On-Campus Interviews

It looks like it's going to be tough for our daughter to make it back to Northfield for an interview. We visited the campus last spring and she loved it. I know that Carleton offers local interviews with alumni. Does anyone have any experience with these interviews or any opinion of the relative value of the off-campus vs on campus interview? Any assistance appreciated.

Most good schools realize that not everyone can make it to campus for an interview, which is why alumni interviews are made available. Some, like Vassar, only do off-campus alum interviews (except for legacies). The important thing with Carleton is to show a sincere interest--they want to feel the love. If it's her top choice, she should let them know. She should also maintain some kind of loose contact with her admission's officer there. Good luck to your daughter!

My D visited Carleton in her junior year (too early to interview), loved it, did an alumni interview in our local area, and was admitted (early decision 2 - she didn't decide to do early decision until after the first deadline).
