Location Stereotypes?

midwest: friendly laid back hicks

only partially true!

CA is definetely stereotyped as (1) blonde (2) flip-flops (3) surfer/gay-males, valley-girl/dumb blonde-females.

Can't say I've ever seen anyone prove it wrong... :) jk

What are Californias thought to be outside of the best state in the world???
So wait, Californians are the best state in the world?

If that is the statement you meant to type, then I also have another statement: Californians cannot write in English.

** I meant.....What are californians (i dropped the n) thought to be outside of the best state in the world? Meaning....I think California is the best.....and I want to know what others think of the people from California.

bay area - hyphy, gangstas, drugs(well the area i live in)

socal- sunshine all day, beaches, surfing, celebrities

I'm from Colorado and we have naaaasty ideas about people in California. Well, not IN cali, but those who MOVE HERE...and jack up house prices...plus they don't know how to drive on mountain roads although they all have to have effing mansions there. There's nothing to ruin a nice mountain view than a house that should be overlooking a bay perched perilously on the top...

Then again, I moved here from TN and was born in TX.

Hence, I'm a backwards hick...from both states. I don't know why everyone hates Texan. Texans are...themselves, so what? Sure, there are some loudmouths but they are EVERYWHERE!!!

...this is a personal bias and again, the farthest northeast I've ever been was...uuuh, Ohio, so...I found that people get prettier as you go farther west. Not taking into account such hot spots as...Florida. But yeah. I don't know. I know people on the east coast are beautiful, too!!!
blech

long beach: snoop ganstas

considering so cal is one of the most diverse places in the country, i find it odd that people keep saying blonde, fake tans. there is so much more to it.

^well, the thread is about stereotypes...not reality

coopertemplegrl-you're from beverly hills, do you have any stereotypes for the south?

How about the Mid-Atlantic/DC? Or are we just so nondescript and uninteresting that we're not even worth having stereotypes about? ;)

Woah, People think MidWesterners are hicks? Really?

Definitely not all friendly. Although the majority are, I suppose. I definitely am.

Any other MidWesterner stereotypes? How about suburbanites? Chicagoans?

Most people find people from Cali know very little about anything outside their state. They don't know thy have hot summers in the Midwest--only think it snows. They don't tknow that there are Gap stores etc everywhere now.

Ha... I visited some cousins in California... they asked if we had CDs in Michigan... I said no, and they went to go get me one to show me what it was... and yeah, they are definitely shocked when they find out that Hollister exists outside of California, and that the hoodies they sell (in michigan) say "california" ...

But yeah. When I think California, I think of the dumb kid you see running around in shorts and a t-shirt while it's about 3 below with 5 inches of snow on the ground. Ha... my cousin was also shocked that snow was cold.

^^^ My cousin moved from NC to CA. She told people that she came from "an island on the coast of NC" ... and the inevitable response was "wow, I didn't know NC was on a coast!" :)

Apparently the Mid-Atlanitc/DC area is the South, at least to New Yorkers. My Bal'mer accent mustive given it away. Oh yea.. and to Virginians, we're preppy yankees, cuz that makes sense.

no way in hell is anyone going to call DC the "South" I am a proud believer that the South starts beneath Alexandria and Arlington... The Mason-Dixon Line lies.
I am not a southerner.

LOL..."Mason-Dixon Line lies" indeed!

Check out where the Mason-Dixon line is, for a start. ;)

However, I agree, the South starts south of DC.

I agree completely but thats what like 4 people said in NY. MD, North VA, and DC are just weird, and its better that way.

What about PA? We're neither Midwest nor New England... I think Mid-Atlantic def. needs its own category.

And there is no way NYC is in the same category as, say, Maine. =P
