Location/Weather

How is the location of Dartmouth? Does Hanover seem too small? How far away is the nearest major airport?
How hard is it to go from class to class during the winter? Does the freezing weather limit student activities?

Location and Size - Its in the middle of nowhere surrounding by lots of opportunities. NYC it is not. More like Chappaqua, except isolated.

"How the location is" and "is it too small?" depend on what you are looking for. For many it is great. For many it is not. If you are considering attending and asking these questions, then you really need to visit the school at least once - better yet once in the winter and one other time.

Getting to class in winter? If you have two feet and can walk, then no problem.

Limited winter activities? If you don't count skiing, etc. as activities. Dartmouth has its own skiway and there are those who would find spending their afternoons after class on the slopes as a unique college opportunity rather than consider themselves limited by the weather. Again, it depends on you.

Lately, unfortunately possibly due to global warming, winters in Hanover have been less harsh. And reputedly, winters in NH are less windy than many locations, such as the midwest. But here is a link to historical average temperatures:

If you compare these temps to many of the schools you are looking at, especially those outside of large cities which retain heat, or inland from the coast (e.g. schools in central Mass, upstate NY), you will find them very similar.
