Locations of UCDavis

I heard UCDavis doesnt have THE best location, that its kinda in the middle of nowhere, or atleast in the outskirts. Is this true. I mean whats the life like. Is the surrounding area nice, or like lively. Any can explain to me in detail???

davis is a college town. mostly middle class white liberals. you can drive like 30 minutes into sacramento for a bigger city life.

their are also several big shopping plazas around.

Snake805, where are you from?

To me, out of all the UC's, Davis has the BEST location. It is very peaceful and quiet there. Here's the best part: the town of Davis is not surrounded by any other towns or suburbs at all!!! (to the west, east, north, or south). Davis lies off of I-80 all by itself.

The closest towns would be Dixon (about 7 miles away to the west), Saramento (about 15 miles to the east), Woodland (about 7 miles north I think). This is why Davis is considered a true college town. The town revolves around the university, and the university revolves around the town. Since it is so peaceful there, that will provide the perfect study environment for me. I don't want to go schools where they party and get drunk all the time. That's definitely not my cup of tea.

If you're a city person, then you will probably not like the UC Davis setting. You would probably prefer settings such as Berkeley and Westwood instead. No, the area is not lively, and in fact, once it gets dark, the town of Davis becomes kinda spooky looking, especially during the winter months when the fog rolls in. Add to the fact that in the middle of campus is this wierd looking forest area.

Most people don't like this type of quiet atmosphere, but to me it is one of its strongest selling points, not to mention the academic repuation at Davis is considered top notch by the entire northern CA region. Science/pre-med and engineering students make up about 40% of the student population. It has a very strong reputation in those 2 areas.

Im from socal, I wasnt saying Davis suxx, i was just asking cuhz i heard it wuznt the best locations.

I have never been bored here dude. What do you like to do?

you have to drive about 30minutes-1hour to get to a big mall. i've been to davis many times. it's really boring. a great city to study though... haha

Dude there are two huge malls, downtown Sac and Arden Fair in Sac that are both 12 minutes away.

oh and jaynele it is never boring here unless you are a boring person ;)

I hear SAC is 45 min away from Davis.

umm theirs no way your going to get to sac that quick. it will be around 30 minutes and sometimes traffic is pretty backed up during rush hour.

their is also vacaville outlets and solano mall if you go further southwest.

Davis is known as "cow town" at our school, hahah

No surprise there, most ignorant people think the same.

Yo voice, whats your name, ill hit you up on facebook..

Davis has three movie theaters (2 multi-screen and one independent). The Mondavi Center on campus is a brand new auditorium that hosts performers and performances from around the world. It brings in world class entertainment. Davis has thousands of apartments that can be rented for alot less than in Westwood or the Bay Area with, pools high speed internet, etc. You can drive to San Francisco in just over an hour. In two hours you can be at lake tahoe and many major ski areas. On campus you can bike anywhere and bike to all of the apartments and to downtown. There is a nice farmers market in the center of town every weekend. There is a small airport nearby where you can sky dive or take flying lessons. Sacramento Airport is about 30 minutes away. Napa valley is 45 minutes. There are some amazing rivers in the area if you like to raft or inner-tube. Arco Arena hosts concerts and basketball and is about 20-25 minutes away. You can find just about anything you want in this area.

It depends where you're going in Sac. Downtown Sac is only about 10-15 minutes away depending on how fast you drive, how much traffic there is (usually pretty light unless it's rush hour or morning commute). Other places in Sac should take no more than 30 minutes for the most part. I commute to school in Sac from Davis everyday and it's really not that bad.

There's a whole lot to do in Davis, however. It's a great town and you'll probably fall in love with it. And if you want to leave Davis, there are plenty of places to go. Sac is close. The mountains are close. The Bay is close. Indian Casinos are close. Davis is pretty close to all these places, but at the same time is able to be isolated.

If you just want a party school (not that Davis doesn't have parties) then don't apply.

"I hear SAC is 45 min away from Davis."

Let me put it to you this way, if you lived in LA Sacramento would be about 45 minutes away from Davis. It is 13 miles, you do the math. :)

To clarify 13 miles to DT Sacramento.
