I'd like to have a lofted bed, but my floor doesn't have modular furniture. I heard we can build them or buy them. Does anyone have an idea of how much it would cost for me to buy one or pay someone to build it? I'm not very good at building things!

ive heard prices around 100-200$. maybe im remembering the wrong price but thats what i think i heard.

Yeah, $150 is the going rate, but it depends upon whether or not the builder provides materials. It might be cheaper to pick up the lumber yourself and then hire somebody in the dorm to do it for you.

Don't quote me on this, but I heard freshmen can't have lofts...but I'm assuming you're a freshman emswim!! If you are, so am I!

I have never heard that, but I also haven't tried to loft and wasn't at ND as a frosh. That just doesn't make sense to me. It may vary dorm to dorm because rectors are different, but I just haven't heard it.

in keenan, we arent allowed to loft as freshmen. im not sure if its for the whole year or for just the first semester.

At the ND Alumni club send-off info meeting, they told us that the rules on whether freshmen can have lofts or not varies from dorm to dorm. So, check with your rector once you get on campus. I think we are allowed to in Walsh, but I'm not sure.

Most of the Dorm websites state what the rules are on Lofts. Siegfried states freshman can not loft their first semester.

Yeah, it varies from dorm to dorm. I lofted my freshman year.
You can always buy lumber at Lowe's or someplace like that and build it yourself if you can't get one that's already made.

If you're lucky, you'll be in a room with modular furniture, as my son was his freshman year. This year, he has a single--comparable in size to a prison cell!--but no modular. I went on line to talk to a number of the hardware stores along Grape Road, and there are some who will pre-cut lumber according to ND's specs, if you pre-pay. It is totally worth checking it out now, before you get on campus with the mad dash rush. Plus, you will be so booked up with Frosh O activities--as will your parents--you won't have time to do all the research work once you get up there...
