lofting beds?

does anyone know if we could loft our beds so we could put our desk underneath it?

You can't. The highest they go is "captain's height" which is about chest height for me and I'm 5'4" tall. You can put your dresser underneath it.

Personally, I'm keeping mine at the low height. I had issues getting in my "captains height" bed at orientation. I would never be able to get in it if I were drunk. lol

yeah, the height of the drawer is about as high as you can put it. and yes, at that height, it's a challenge to get it when inebriated :P (mine was one notch below the top setting, a difference of about 2.5 inches, and the only way i could get in was with a gentle roll facing the bed haha).

I'm 5'1"... the beds all seem to be that way already in Fluor, so I'll just leave it & drunken nights can be spent on the living room couch

Haha, I'm coming back to Fluor this year, and I can tell you that it seemed like I always high-jumped onto my bed. It was like track-and-field Olympics for me every night. My roommate and I are probably going to stack beds this year. I'm obviously going to take the bottom bunk because I'm a lot shorter. :) That, and the fact that I don't want to fall from the top bunk.

I got a nice little stepping stool, which was very useful for getting into the bed. It also makes something else to sit on in the room.

You don't want to loft beds anyhow. I was in another school's dorm with desks under beds (to save space) and it was really tiring to go up and down every day... Besides, you wont have any place you just want to sit and chill out at in your own room. (the desk chair isn't that comfortable)

how high can you loft the beds in birnkrant? i'm thinking of bringing this drawer/storage bin that's about 3 ft tall, but i can't think of anywhere else to put it but under the bed...

3 ft i think should fit under the bed.

You know I thought lofting was impossible until I saw my friend's bed. (she lived in marks hall) http://photos-b.ak.facebook.com/photos-ak-sf2p/v51/146/65/1550730050/n1550730050_30024853_7805.jpg

uyulove is correct (I lived in Marks Hall the past 2 years). It is technically possible to loft a bed much higher than the desk so your desk can go under the bed-- and you can still use it, of course.

I'm not sure if official policies allow this, although certainly quite a few Marks Hallers have done it in the past. If you know where to look around the housing area, you can get the materials you need and loft your bed yourself-- I did this last year.

Different building have different types of beds, thus it all depends on where you are living. The Deans' Halls all have the type of bed in the photo, but someplace like Pardee tower doesn't.
