Loftman Hall

Hello... I was wondering if anyone could tell me a bit about Loftman, seeing as I have just been assigned there, and I won't actually see the apartment until move in day. I know that its one of the older upperclass dorms, but I've never been inside, since most of my friends last year were either in the freshman dorms or in west village or dav. How big are the apartments (more specifically, the 5 person ones)? Any info/opinions/insights would be greatly appreciated. :)

I loved living in Loftman. The location is pretty awesome and the apartments are all pretty nice, especially for being non-enhanced dorms. There was a good amount of space, but I lived in an 8 person apt (yikes!) so I’m not sure about the 5 person. I think they’re all pretty decently sized, kitchen is a little small but that’s life in Boston. If I could go back I’d probably live there again, it’s a good building.

Thanks for replying…haha now I can stop worrying about winding up in some dumpy, cramped shoebox of an apartment (st. stephen, anyone??). I once heard that there used to be a mice infestation… did you ever have that problem? Oh, and does loftman not have an elevator? I’ve been looking at the floorplan and i cant figure out if it has one or not (if not, moving in might be a bit more complicated, lol). Thanks! :)

nah, bigger than st. stephens, definitely not a shoebox by boston standards.

Do buildings exist that aren’t infested with mice? Man, sign me up. I’ve never lived anywhere in Boston that didn’t have mice. Hemenway, St. Stephens, the Hill. Mice always. Just keep clean and find a roommate who isn’t squeamish about taking them out of snap traps! I actually think I had less mice in loftman than in other places, but they’re definitely there.

Nope, no elevator. Moving in/out will be a little *****.

So I’m kind of doubting that you or someone else is going to see this and respond to it, but I also got assigned to Loftman for the fall, in an 8 person apartment. Can you tell me a little bit what that was like? Like, was it hard to get time in the kitchen? Were there always people in the common room? How many people did you know in the apartment before you moved it (I only know two)?

Anything you could say would be really helpful, thanks!

Hey I lived in 153 Hemenway aka Loftman’s freshmen side last year and I will be honest with you. It’s not the best place for housing especially if you guys are upperclassmen or transfers. For me and my dorrm mates last year as freshmen it was cool because of the private bathrooms. Better then living in the stetsons or speare for that reason only. But loftman does have a bit of a mice infestation. BEWARE. Make sure you and your suite mates don’t keep any food out! Also it is a bit cold there in the winter…
