I'm trying to decide whether to arrive through the Boston Airport (LOGAN) or Bradley International (BDL). Is there a shuttle that goes from Logan to Smith for Smithies? Or Bradley to Smith for Smithies? Or do I need to go the Taxi route?

Our daughter has flown only to Bradley. The Valley Transporter provides reliable transportation back and forth to Smith for about $50 a trip. Do a web search and you’ll find an online reservation system, or call their number. It takes under an hour for each trip. D has used this service several times when Smith has not been running a shuttle, and it has been very dependable.

If you fly to Bradley and the Smith SGA isn’t running a bus (which only happens for Thanksgiving, going home for Winter break, and spring break), you have to get a shuttle or rely on someone else. I second the Valley Transporter, and though they service all Five Colleges they stop at Smith first and will drop you off at your house (if you know where it is - the shuttle drivers can’t really help you there).

If you fly to Logan and can’t get a ride, you’re stuck taking the Peter Pan bus. I think a one-way ticket would be about $30, but I haven’t done it recently so I can’t confirm (but Peter Pan does offer student discounts).

Neither is a horrible option, but Bradley is much closer to Smith (45 minutes vs. at least two hours on a bus, depending on where you have to stop) and a shuttle will drop you off on campus and the Peter Pan stop is in downtown Northampton so you still have a 10 minute walk to Smith. The SGA never runs a bus to Logan.

How do I know if the SGA is running a bus?

Definitely Bradley - I’d say Logan would be closer to 2.5 and a taxi would be very pricy from there! Not sure if Peter Pan even goes directly from Logan or of you would have to take a subway to the bus station.

It’s on the SGA website (and there should be more info distributed after the year starts). [Smith College: Student Government Association](http://www.smith.edu/sga)

It’s way too early for info about this coming school year, though. I’d check back in October. :)

You can either take the silver line bus from Logan to South Station and get the Peter Pan from there OR take the Peter Pan from Logan to South Station and onward. I’m sure the first option is cheaper (and more frequent) than the second, but the second has easier transfers.

I just checked the Peter Pan website - it’s $10 one way to go from Logan to South Station. Logan to Northampton is $40 one-way (before a student discount).

Princess, I your decision will hinge on where you’re flying from, how much you want to spend and how much stuff you’ll be carrying with you. Logan’s a much bigger airport so you’ll have flexibility in picking flights and looking for cheaper fares. But as the posters above note, you’ll have a much easier time getting to Northampton from Bradley.
