Would just like to preface and say I know I have literally no chance but! a girl can dream!
Background: I’m a white girl from New England who goes to a relatively sub-par public high school in which the majority of people from my school go to community college or our in state school. I’m also kinda poor (which is why I love Bowdoin).
Major: Visual art.
GPA: 3.5 - my school weighs GPA’s really weirdly. I know it sucks but it’s mostly because of freshman year GPA (I’ve been in the 3.7 to 4.0 range for the past few years!!)
Course load: I’ve taken so many AP and honors classes that I’ve lost count (I think 15-ish). I’ve never taken a lot of the AP exams because I do terribly in standardized testing and I don’t have the money to take them all.
SAT: not submitting
Extracurriculars:
Tennis team (state champs for two years)
Drama club (set design)
Art club
Engineering club
I work in the summers
I’ve done volunteer work but honestly not a lot.
As I said, I’m applying as a studio art major to Bowdoin and it’s basically what I spent my entire high school career doing. I’m really involved in the arts and I’ve entered in many competitions. I visited Bowdoin several times, doing an interview with a student (that went well!) and I even got an interview with two staff members (both of whom wrote me good letters of rec!). My college essay and supplemental for Bowdoin were both very good (or so I’ve been told), and so were my recommendations from my teachers, especially my art teacher.
I also submitted my art portfolio to Bowdoin, which was also very strong.
Anyway, I know Bowdoin is crazy hard to get into and my chances to get in are super slim but oh well. Also! if anyone wants to recommend me schools that are similar to Bowdoin but slightly easier to get into, I’d be very interested!
