Internationally, general public is not a good indicator. I’m a graduate of LSE but of course know that Berkley is a great university, I came across it for the research that it does in computer science. I believe that Berkley is a multi faculty university, whereas LSE is the faculty of economics for the University of London and therefore a specialist college.

So a bit apples and oranges in one sense.

Within the commonwealth (ex British territories) which at one point in the early 1900 included quite a lot of territory I would that LSE is probably very well known in these countries due to the elites travelling to the UK to be educated.

If you take as a measure the number of international students (150+ countries are represented at LSE) then LSE might be better know internationally (I say might because I’m biased as a UK national and have no reference point about Berkley, except that I personally know that it is a great university).

I hope that helps?

LSE because you seem to want to work in business/finance etc. LSE also IMO will be more well known internationally. Slightly lower than 50% on their student population is international whereas in UC Berkley the number is even less than that.

I come from Hong Kong and i only heard of Berkeley when i saw Iron Man lol.

Berkeley’s International Prestige is above LSE any day.

Also, it’s spelled Berkeley. Not Berkley.

This. Pretty much only to Harvard possibly.

Berkeley has a very widespread reputation because it is strong across so many disciplines, from its top rated programs in Engineering, the hard sciences, the humanities and the social sciences to its top notch MBA program and Law School. LSE has a strong reputation too, but it is more contained. I would give the edge to Cal, but LSE is not slouch in this area either.
