Anyone audition for Central,Lamda,Rada and get any recalls yet?

Yes, some LAMDA recalls have gone out. I’m not sure if they’re all out because I know they still had some initial auditions at the beginning of this week.

Last audition was yesterday in New York, I know recalls are towards the end of March don’t know the dates my D auditioned in L.A last year and was waitlisted without a recall but, of course never got off the wait list she passed up DePaul thinking she would by a miracle get in silly girl so she auditioned again this year, auditioned for Royal Central got recalled now waiting on Rada audition first time they have come to L.A! Does not seem to be much UK info this year on C.C?

Last year my D had her initial audition with LAMDA on 2/21 and received her recall notification on 3/2. Recalls were in NYC 3/16-17. My D also auditioned with RADA in LA last year.

@Londream2 I will pm you. Some LAMDA recalls went out last week, at least for people who auditioned earlier.

ThespDad. What was that Rada audition like?

Nothing special really. RADA rented studio space in Hollywood. D did 3 of her monologues, I think. They asked her some questions. They had same day callbacks right there, but D did not receive one. She did, however, get a pretty nice rejection letter saying “on the strength of having seen your work,” she should apply for one of their other non-degree courses.

Thank you for the info !

Thanks for the thread and info, all. My daughter auditioned for LAMDA relatively recently, and has her RADA audition here in L.A. in a couple weeks. She loves both the schools (in theory); I’m less sold on them, primarily because the idea of throwing her into a non-“college” environment to go live on her own for the first time 5,000 miles from home makes me… a bit anxious. If they had dorms, a regular college experience, awesome - but it seems a bit intense for a, let’s face it, sheltered girl from the suburbs of California. Fortunately/unfortunately, I know they take VERY VERY VERY few kids right out of high school, so I probably have nothing to worry about, but… Anyway, just throwing it out there – let me know if I’m crazy, or wrong on my facts, or if y’all have any of the same concerns I do?

My daughter also applied to RADA and will be auditioning in a little over a week. She went to the program this summer and LOVED it. We also are in SoCa and on the fence about the whole idea, but again the likely hood that she will be accepted is another thing. I sorta am at the “wait and see what happens” before I hyperventilate.

Hey fellow SoCal resident – some cold snap, eh? Anyway, we can wait and see and hyperventilate later, perhaps. But good to know I’m not the only one in the boat. It looks like @ThespDad17 has a daughter at LAMDA now, from what I can see from other posts, so may he’ll let us know what her experience has been alike. Again, doesn’t really matter unless they get in, but I am curious.

Another SoCal parent, whose son went through this process last year and is now in a US theatre program. He did the summer at RADA two years ago and loved it, we all loved it, but in the end he did not audition. Mainly because of their reputation of taking more mature, adult types; we thought it would probably be out of range for him.

And while we were a bit concerned about the non-traditional style program and being so far from home, London is an incredibly accessibly city as far as walkability, great public transportation, and having easy access to so many things. I think it would be actually easier to have a college experience there than it would be to be in a rural university setting in the US without a car. Anyway, point is . . . I’m a fan of the idea of UK experience for post high-school training, and I’ll be hoping for positive outcomes for all of you.

For those interested- RADA does offer a semester long experience as well. It is through NYU - but it is open to students from other universities - b/c when my D did it last year, there was a boy from U of M, and a girl from Boston U who were there. Students lived in dorms. Again - out of the 16 there, 14 were NYU, no real idea how the others got spots- but something to keep in mind. It was hands down my D’s favorite thing she did In college

Thanks @heliobike and @toowonderful – good points! We know London really well – we lived there for 3 months a few years ago, and I’m there for business a lot – and that’s probably one reason why she loves it – she spent a lot of time exploring the city and, yes, as a town I adore it. It’s more about her being alone, without a specific support system in place that worries me. Again, it’s a literally 1% chance or something crazy like that so it’s worth way more time than I’m putting into worrying about it. But hey, I figured I’d vent

And yes, there are some great study-abroad in London options at a lot of the school she’s either gotten into or are waiting to hear from. Waiting on NYU, and yes, they have the RADA option. Fordham also has a London program, and the Pace Directing program spends a semester or a year (can’t remember) in Barcelona, so that’s cool, too. Many options – and it’s awesome to hear that it was your daughter’s favorite thing! Really cool.

Royal Central offers housing thru the University of London also Guildhall has their own housing, all the others your on your own! My D was wait listed two years ago without a callback at Lamda but never got off the list

We had all of the same concerns as everyone else about our D living in London and going to school, especially after a pretty sheltered existence growing up. However, she has had a great experience. LAMDA put everyone together on their own Facebook page after they admitted the class. Most of the folks in her class then grouped themselves into groups of 2 or 3 to find housing. They also have a housing officer who helps and who forwards requests from former LAMDA grads and upperclass students for roommates. My D has a flat with 2 other students from her class. They live in West Kensington, about a 10-15 minute walk to school. They go everywhere together and really watch out for each other as do all the classmates. It’s actually really a college experience with London as their campus. Plus, I like that my D already has to watch her own money and keep a budget. She has learned to shop for food, to cook, to pay utility bills, and to clean up. I figure she has a head start on the transition out of college. LAMDA students go to plays around London and go backstage because invariably there’s a LAMDA grad in the cast. The program is intense, as I’ve mentioned before. We most of all wanted a program that would be challenging to our D, where the other students were relatively mature and serious about acting, and where she would constantly be learning. The LAMDA program has delivered that in buckets. Everybody knows everybody there, it’s truly collaborative, and the students really bond with each other. I’m happy to pm with anyone who has more specific questions about the program or living in London.

Did anyone do the San Francisco Royal Central auditions? My D made it to callbacks and now it’s Rada in LA next Monday !

What is the actual cost for tuition and housing etc. Lamda mentioned around 150k a year?

@Londream2 150K a year??? Please tell me that’s a typo? Tuition is closer to $27,000 USD I believe, and housing is crazy expensive, don’t get me wrong, but Lamda is in West Ken, which is nice, but… 150K seems outrageous.

The head of the department Rodney Cottier told my D expect to pay at least that, the one thing about Lamda is they really stress the how are you going to pay!!!
