london is a great place. if you consider 2 students getting killed, you should count up the death count in america among students due to student shootings in the past year.

Sorry but "great" is an understatement. London is extraordinary.

House of London: They don't have gun violence, but they seem to have a lot of other types of violence and robbery. My best friend lives there and I stayed with her one summer, and while walking down the street we saw some boys steal an iPod out of a woman's hand and just run. And upon move-in my best friend's mother's car was broken into. When they called the police, they told them there was really nothing they could do about it, and didn't even come to check it out (the police seemed to be sort of incompetent). And my friends and family up there complain about crime all the time (she thinks it's worse than where she lived in America), and I've heard of more than 2 deaths occuring in the course of a few months. I think a lot of it was the cause of rivalry between different sections or "sides" of London.

But then again, it could just be the area. What side/area did you live in? My friend lives in Southwest London; that's where I stayed. I think North and northwest london were a lot better and safer. But even SW London was still really nice. I really enjoyed it.

kinglin, for my school atleast the grade you will see on your transcript is P for pass

london is expensive

sometimes, it is sunny in London. I had a couple sunny days there in June. It does have a reputation for rain and clouds though.

Are you familiar with the "tutor" style of classes? You should see what kind of classes the places you would want to study abroad at offer.

collegebouand91, well London isn't quite perfect and like all places it has its share of crimes and violence but it is a luxurious place to live which is why the cost of living is so high.

sfboy, You really need to go talk with your study abroad office at your university. All universities have different policies regarding study abroad, and all schools have different requirements for the engineering major.

At my school, there is a list of study abroad programs approved by university faculty. Within this list are study abroad programs approved by the engineering school. I have an engineering friend who is studying near London for a full school year and will still graduate on time.

Study abroad programs vary so much from school to school that it is unrealistic to get good advice here. Check with your study abroad office.

You know nothing about london if you think its super safe. maybe if you stay in centeral london (waterloo ect).

5 of my friends have died due to gang related violence and knife crime.

There are always stabbings everyday.

The weather is crap aswell.

It may suit some people but ive been here all my life and Ill tell you its not as good as it seems. maybe ok for a week holiday but longer than that and it sucks.

I went to live in dubai for a year and I missed my firneds I couldnt wait to come back when I came back I was like wow now ive experienced a diffrent country to compare. London is really crap and now I want to go back to dubai or go to america lol.

I love the Queen and you will never convince me otherwise. Washington D.C. and NYC have bad crimerates too, especially SE D.C. Gang shootings everyday....doesn't mean its a bad city, I love both dearly.

I don't think anyone claimed that london is super safe haha. I doubt London is much worse than any large metropolitan city. There are good/bad, safe/unsafe areas of any city.

i mean sure, snowblow, if you visit Beverly Hills you may think that where you stay in London is crap...but try visiting South Central.
Crime is a problem in all cities, its not unique to London or any other one.

anyway I love London. I adore the music (arctic monkeys, muse, i can go on forever so I will shut up), the soccer, the history. I visited for a few days a couple of years ago and I really liked it. I'd love to study abroad there at some point.

"5 of my friends have died due to gang related violence and knife crime."

Duh, smart guy! Since it's gang-related violence your friends most likely put themselves in that situation. It doesn't take a genius to know that if you put yourself in a stupid situation the outcome isn't always going to be pleasing. Like all trouble makers, they aren't going to have a happy ending whether you're living in London, America, or Dubai etc.

Overall London is a great city, but it and many other UK cities to have a big problem with crime. Part of the problem is that the police seem largely useless. I lived there for several years and was totally unimpressed. The government has bogged the police down with pointless paperwork and other duties to the point that actual policing has fallen by the wayside.

A friend of mine had his shop broken into by thugs (smashed the windows in and stole a bunch of stuff)... the police were called moments after the break-in and they didn't actually show up for THREE DAYS. The shopkeeper was left to inspect the premises himself because the police wouldn't come and essentially said they were too busy and couldn't be bothered (for all he knew the robbers were still hiding somewhere inside waiting to attack him). When the police finally did show up all they did was fill out a few forms.

There are lower rates of gun crime (since it's almost impossible for a citizen to own a gun), but rates of just about every other type of crime are much higher in the UK.

Certainly don't let that deter you from going to London, but do be aware that crime is an issue there and in many other parts of the UK and just keep vigilant (but don't expect the police to do much if something does happen).

damn so london is that bad?

There are issues, but please don't be scared off.

This is a ploy to scare americans away.
