lone ranger online classes

Lone Ranger, nice to see you back answering questions. I have one for you or any other current student.

My D is considering taking an online course through UT extension. She wants to get a couple of core requirements out of the way. Supposedly, you can take history, government, and humanities core on line. Do you have any experience or knowledge about this. How difficult is this path? Is it hard to get a B or better. Does it require more or less work/time? Does it require tremendous discipline?

Any help or advise. An earlier thread did not seem to answer this question a while back.

Thanks all

I’m currently taking GOV312L through university extension. I am taking 9 hours in residence and work 30 hours/wk so I wanted to free up my schedule by taking the UEX course. The first thing I should warn you about is that the online courses of UEX are generally not counted toward residency hours at UT. Thus, if you were taking 9 hours in residence and 3 hours via UEX, they would not count you as full time student for financial aid. if you take a UEX course in a classroom however, this does count toward financial aid.

I’m only a few lessons into the course, but in my experience, it is a lot of work. There are 10 writing assignments for my course and the first one was 10 pages. Granted, not all assignments are this long, but it should not be overlooked that many will be very substantial. In retrospect, I wish I could have taken it in residence because I simply think it would have involved less work and more discussion.

The course will require discipline. There is an ultimated deadline by which the course must be completed including the final. I don’t think it is tremendously difficult to score well. I got a 100 on the first assignment. In order to register, go to [Online College Course Listing :: University Extension, The University of Texas at Austin](http://courses.webhost.utexas.edu/dec/college/searchcollege.cfm) and search for the course you wish to take.

Thanks kkwa. I was wondering about this too. My D is planning to take Gov 312 through UEX this summer; it’s helpful to hear how much work it will be.

Thanks KKWA. Anyone else have perspective.

I’m currently taking GOV 312L with Enelow this semester. The entirety of your grade in the class is 3 multiple choice exams: no homeworks, no essays, no final. The class is pretty dry. It is essentially a Texas history class. I would recommend that over having to do a bunch of writing assignments and homeworks though because it is not that difficult to study a week or so before the exam and still do well.

athenos, is this class in person or online?

bump any other opinions or knowledge about online courses

still looking for online advise. Anyone else ever take it

This is in-person. An online gov class would definitely have hw assignments.
