Should I appeal? I’m planning to transfer from Cypress college to Csulb. I graduated from Millikan back in 2014 and I literally live 2 streets down from the campus. I have a 2.7 gpa and got rejected admission. People say if you’re a local and graduated from Millikan you’re guaranteed priority. Well here I am and got rejected. I’m getting discouraged because I’m afraid that my other schools won’t accept me and I worked really hard to transfer. I thought it would be convienient since I live a few streets down and I can save on gas lol.
I’m almost certain Cypress is considered local for CSUF. Maybe you would have had priority at CSULB had you applied for freshman admission. I don’t think they care about what high school you attended once you are a transfer. Very sorry about the rejection. Having to commute far is a drag.
This is from the CSULB website regarding local admissions and transfers:
Transfer Applicants are considered ‘local’ based on their high school of graduation, not their transfer institutions. Additionally, CSULB extends ‘local” preference to military veterans. Except for “Highly Impacted” majors, CSU eligible applicants who are considered ‘local’ will be offered admission if they meet the Major Specific minimum cumulative GPA and required lower division preparation.

So being local gives you priority but not a guarantee. Which major and did you meet the major GPA and did you have the required courses completed?

I’m a criminal justice major. I understand that it’s a very impacted major. I’ve completed all the requirements.
You have nothing to lose if you appeal, but for a successful appeal you have to show that either there was a mistake made by CSULB in reviewing your application or provide new and compelling information not available at the time of your application.
Did you do an associates for transfer?
I didn’t get an Associate yet. I finished all of my general ed and lower division courses. Some courses weren’t offered in my college. When I talked to a counselor at my school they said I would take them there.
I did apply as a freshman and I got denied as well. I was sad that my friends that had lower gpa than me got accepted. I was at a 2.9 gpa at Millikan. I applied to Fullerton Long Beach and channel island and one private school. Got denied to all schools freshman year so I went to cc. I’m the first in my family to attend college.
