long division symbol

Anyone know how to make the long division symbol? (i.e. what I can use to write something like 20x^2 divided by 5x and have the 4x on the top) - I need to paste it into a word document.

Thanks in advance!

You can do it in LaTeX but I doubt you can insert long division symbols in MS Word. You could also simply use fractions, unless you’re demonstrating the actual division process.

@rspence - I’m trying to demonstrate polynomial long division and using the regular division symbol just makes the concept harder to grasp, so I really, really wanted to use the actual long division symbol if possible. Thanks for the suggestion, I’ll try it.

@k4r3n2 - those are fractions, bro. NOT what I’m looking for, but thanks anyways. I’ve done my due diligence on google, but have only found that I should use the MS equation function, but this doesn’t have long division.

If you plan on using it frequently (i.e. your a teacher) you can buy mathtype for around $50-60.

On my Mac running Microsoft Word, Alt+/ does it: ÷

@Techtool, I have MS Word 2007 and Insert–>Equation–>÷ does it quite fine. But strawberries21 is looking for long division symbol, i.e.

LaTeX is tricky if you’ve never used it before. You can also use MathType, as cc123sb said (there’s a free 30-day trial).

try the first link

Thanks everybody; got what I needed! And k4r3n2 if you go to MIT, we should be friends.
