Long Island University Dance B.F.A

Hi I'm really hoping to get into Long Island Universities dance program. I was wondering quite a few things. Are they selective? What kind of dancers are they looking for (i.e strong contemporary, jazz, modern?)? Whether academics matter? If video auditioning would affect my chances majorly? Whether its a good program? Or any additional information you have!! :-) any help is appreciated!

Are you looking into LIU Post or LIU Brooklyn? I auditioned for Post and it seems they want an all around dancer, they stressed you don’t have to be proficient in all the styles they focus on (Ballet, Modern, Jazz, Tap, and African), but they want to see potential and willingness to learn because you are required to study all of the styles once you are there. The program seems really great with a lot of opportunities and it seems pretty selective as each class is pretty small.

Im applying to both but I am focusing on LIU Brooklyn. Are you currently studying at LIU or applying??

I applied, received an academic acceptance and auditioned at LIU Post

When did you receive the academic acceptance? I sent my commonapp in during december and haven’t gotten anything back yet. Would you think an SAT score of 1590 would be acceptable? Where the people who auditioned really good? Since the deadline for the video audition is March 22nd I still haven’t sent it in. Sorry about bombarding you with questions!! Thanks!! x

If you haven’t heard back, email admissions, I sent my application awhile ago and didn’t receive a response so I emailed just last week saying I didn’t have a response and I got my acceptance within the week. My audition was really small, I heard the next one is going to have a lot more dancers, everyone was pretty good some better than others. This was one of the auditions I felt pretty confident with because of how it was run and the way the faculty, staff, and students acted.

When I emailed a while back inquiring about auditions, they said that I would not receive an acceptance letter until I auditioned. Is that different from the academic acceptance? Do you know if I could still ask whether I had received an academic acceptance before sending in a video audition? Thanks a lot, you’ve been really helpful!!

I know you can be accepted academically first, but the dance acceptance is a different letter. It doesn’t hurt to ask! I’m just relaying the information that I heard from my dance audition!

Aite!! Thank you, you’ve been really helpful! Good luck for your application!!
