I wasn't considering Harvard, but we decided to visit on our way home from Brown and my parents fell in love with it. I too agree it was up there with Hogwarts :) So...can you tell me if I have any chance? Although to warn you I seem pretty mediocre. Thanks for your help!

I wrote a 200 pg novel for my gifted project, which i'm very proud of. I didn't try to publish it though.

Your grades are stellar, you scores are stellar, your ECs could be great or not. It depends on how they end up being presented. You haven’t said how you spent your summers. You have as good a chance as anyone - it will all boil down to essays and recommendations and of course whether YOU (not just your parents) like Harvard. It doesn’t have Brown’s open curriculum, but it does have other plusses.

publishing can take a WHILE. believe me, i wrote a book last summer and its just now coming out next month. if you want it done quicker, maybe you should try looking up a self-publishing company. even then it takes a few months, depending on how much editing needs to be done.

first of all, you might have to change your name ;)

you definitely have a shot at harvard. honestly, i did not have the best grades in high school, i was 30 in my class of 600. nothing special. but, i really think admissions looks for more than just numbers. behind that transcript is a person, you just have to show them that. and the way to do that is through your essays and interviews. show harvard who you are and what you have to offer. if harvard is really what you want, let them know. they are looking for students with passion for life and as corny as this all sounds, it’s true. a kid with perfect SAT’s that lacks any personality or drive is going to be rejected. and thankfully, because really, who wants to be stuck with that as a roommate??
good luck!
