Which one do you guys prefer? Reason?

My top 5 housing preferences are close to campus, but I am planning on going to the beach, IV, etc.

Both, bicycle for rainy days and longboard for whenever. If you do get a bicycle, its roadbike or nothing. You’ll need something fast and slim to get by these ty * bikers

Bicycle for rainy days? I don’t know TJ, when I rode the bike on rainy days I would be soaked top to bottom. I prefer wearing some sturdy hiking boots with an umbrella and walk on rainy days.

Biking:

Pros: You’ll get to class faster with less energy.

Cons: The likelihood of you losing your bike is pretty high. I don’t know if it is bad luck or what but two of my bikes got stolen (I ALWAYS locked them with a U-lock). You HAVE to ride in the bike lanes, not take short cuts on campus.

Long board:

Pros: You don’t have to worry about parking it anywhere, you can ride the long board anywhere on campus outdoors.

Cons: I would say it takes a bit more effort to ride it. You have to carry it to class.

I would go with the long board if you had to choose one. If I could have both, I would.

I prefer the longboard over the bicycle. Bicycles are large and cumbersome; you have to lock/unlock them on both ends of the trip. IMO, bicycles are more likely to be stolen (longboards should always be on your person). Longboards are also more flexible - not physically, but you can get around campus on the sidewalks as opposed to be restricted to bike paths. Bike traffic during peak hours is horrendous.

The cons would be that a longboard seems to cost just about as much as a bike, so you’re not saving much, if any, money. A bike obviously moves faster than a longboard, but the locking/unlocking of the bike may make up for that. I’m also a little worried that there are getting to be too many skateboarders on campus; the traffic is starting to suck, especially since they’re sharing the road with pedestrians (which is probably irritating for the pedestrians too!) and the novelty of being a skateboarder isn’t around anymore. There was recently a rule banning skateboards in the Arbor. There are “Save Skateboarding” campaigns around campus, but I’m concerned that a growth of the number of skateboarders will just inevitably lead to more restrictions.

A skateboard cannot be ridden everywhere on campus. So that’s not a reason for choosing it over the bike. You can, in fact, get a ticket for skateboarding in the wrong places. Ticket isn’t cheap either.

Bicycle for your in-campus transportation needs

actually, using a private helicopter would be faster

manciini is a ■■■■■

No, because it takes approximately 4 minutes to station a helicopter onto the ground, and 2 minutes to lift a helicopter off the ground. If you take into account flight time, maybe 30 seconds to anywhere on campus, you are taking about 6-7 minutes per trip.

Gas is also more expensive on a helicopter, another reason to go with bicycles.

i agree, consoling

how is mancini a ■■■■■? :(

Good question, how am I a ■■■■■?

■■■■■!!!

Funny coming from you, Menti.
