Hey so I really want to get into longboarding for college next year and wanted some advice on what kind to get. I want to just get a basic beginners board so I wanted to know what the specs should be. what length? (I'm 6'4" if that matters) concave or convex? What durometer level? What style (pintail, mini, cruiser etc.)? My campus is probably a little bigger than average and is pretty flat so I figure a small turn radius is more important than downhill speed. Any input would be awesome and feel free to recommend a specific board or brand or anything else. I would prefer to not go over $150.

Anyone??? Any input from a longboarder would be much appreciated.

I would recommend getting something from Earthwing, their longboards are usually in the ~150 range and are very solid. Boards like the Earthwing Superglider can handle campus cruising as well as some decent downhill. For wheels I’d say stick to the 77a-82a range if you’re only interested in cruising around and carving a bit b/c that durometer is softer and has more “grip”. Since you’re 6’4" and probably of a pretty decent weight you should stay away from getting a flexy board. Personally I think companies like loaded and original are overpriced, and their boards are out of your price range anyways.

Some other companies to consider: Never Summer (they have a 3 year warranty which is sweet)
Gravity (pretty good quality to price ratio)

If you want to purchase online or just take a look at some of the specs, you can check out websites like Muirskate or longboardskater.
