Hey guys
So last year, i took the sat as an eighth grader. My score was 1450. So my question is, is it a bad score for an eighth grader? How do i improve it?? My goal is to increase each section by 50-100 points each year.
i got a 450 W, 450 M, and 550 CR
thanks everybody

haha at the headline
but yeah I would say your critical reading of 550 would probably be in the 99%ile for 8th graders if they all took the test
my friend who went to gifted school with me took the old SAT at age 10 and he got a
470 on the V and a 440 on the M

but yeah I would say you will probably end up in high school with like a 740 CR
650-700 M
650-700 W
or perhaps a lil higher
maybe since your an eight grader I am being a bit generous
if you were in like 6th grade I would be twice as impressed

1450’s not a bad score for 8th grade, but you can definitely improve it. Wait a couple more years until you are fluent with algebra/geo, essay writing, vocab, etc. and your score will shoot straight up.

I do know someone who scored a 2070 in 8th grade but he’s a genius, basically. But don’t compare yourself. Just focus on learning the material well and you’ll do fine.

damn rspence that is impressive as hell
am I right in guessing he probably had a higher math score than CR and W?

there was someone who went to my gifted school who took the SAT at 10
and he got an 800 on Math but only a 380 on the verbal

but yeah I would say that a 2070 in 8th grade is pretty much a 2370 in 11th

that’s good for an 8th grader. now stop thinking about the SAT until you learn enough to take it in 3 years. get off college con and play outside.

@j6ma9l yeah, I think he got ~2300 on SAT and 36 on his ACT (in 11th grade). He’s made National Mathcounts and qualified to USAMO, so I’m sure he easily got 800 on math.

yeah SaiRam your scores are not that impressive because I found the percentiles for 7th and 8th graders
<a href=“College Board - SAT, AP, College Search and Admission Tools”>College Board - SAT, AP, College Search and Admission Tools;

so CR 550 is 89th Percentile for your age group
450 M is 44th percentile for your age group
granted if your taking the test in 7th and 8th grade your usually doing it because your talented and its kind of a talent assessment measure so I would say a 44th percentile really translates to like 75th percentile for your overall age group
and an 89%ile is probably like 95%ile
there are no stats for the writing section

8th grade scores don’t even matter.

Yes it is a good score for an eight grader. You can still improve probably to 2000.

myoliewufan1995- Sorry if i sound pretentious, but id like it higher. My goal is to work very hard and get it to a perfect or very near.
Also, does anybody have any tips? I heard that for every year of high school, you gain 50 points. Is that true?

Meh each case is different. My advice follows those who precede me: stop worrying about the SATs and go enjoy being a freshman. I took the SAT when I was in 8th grade because I had older high school friends and wanted to know what all the hype was about. I received a 1750 (+/-20) and didn’t think about it again until I took the PSAT again sophomore year. I received a 197 on the PSAT, but didn’t even prep for the SAT until the end of sophomore year/summer (which made my mom for a while think I was a slacker destined for nothing useful). My junior PSAT score will remain undisclosed, but I received a 2270 in November of last year with lots of prep and then a 2400 with some light warm ups in January of this year. Moral of the story: Join clubs that further your passions and get good grades. Go enjoy some September sunshine and then freeze your butt off in snowball fights in December. Worry about life later.
