Looked at Olin...and.....

Son turned down Case Western, MIT, Carnegie Mellon, Duke, University of Florida, Vanderbilt, Washington University in St. Louis, Georgia Tech, and University of Texas in order to attend Olin, and this was before Olin was accredited.

we! those are amazing options he had conundrum! has he been happy with his choice ?? ( probobly) but why specifically!!

kayakmom…
My son loved his time at Olin. He got to know so many amazing students and professors while he was there. The Olin community remains a tight-knit group even after graduating. At times the curriculum was frustrating, because of Olin’s “Do-Learn” philosophy. Some of the students on this board can give you a better understanding of this. The way I understand it, the professors will assign a project without giving the students a lot of background on how they should tackle it. It is up to the students to figure out what they need to do. Afterwards, the professors teach the theoretical principals behind the work. My son liked the challenge, enjoyed the project based learning, and found that he was better prepared for his Masters program than a lot of his fellow students. He found a job immediately after getting his Masters and finds that he has a better understanding of how to approach company assignments than many of his co-workers. So, I would say that he is very happy that he chose Olin over the other schools.

A friend of our family is finishing his 4th year at Olin and speaks highly favorably about his time there. He already has a job a Microsoft in their Xbox division and he doesn’t graduate until May.

So far, 14 Oliners from the class of '12 have been hired by Microsoft…it’s starting to look like Olin West!

Wow - that is so exciting! Congratulations to all the Oliners who have found jobs so far.
Smiles,
