Looking Back?

Does Yale look back at past graduates, say those from the year before, when looking at your application? Do they look at you and see how you compare to past acceptees?

Anyone have an idea?

Bumping this again!

Well I suppose your regional admissions officer knows who went to Yale from your school.....

Well, since no one from my school has ever gotten into Yale (one got waitlisted a few years back, lol) I don't really have this problem, but I'm curious too!

I'm more concerned about this year's applicants from the same school haha. This girl and I had a huge fight about whether or not I should apply (I'm val; she's sal; she thinks I'll ruin her chances and that she basically "called it" first....childish much?)

I hope we're not dragging each other down by both applying.

^ Right. So do you think our chance will maybe go up if we have better stats?

Oh, and hookem, catty much? Not referring to you, BTW, but the girl. LOL

I think that the admissions officers see how many people apply from your school, how many get in, and how many actually matriculate. If your school has a low matriculation number to acceptee number ratio, I think this could hurt you (but this is only my guess...)

^ I would agree there.
If they let in 10 kids from your school, but NONE matriculate (and all go to Harvard :P)....

Sucks for you :)

Actually, Yale loves kids from my school. A couple of years ago, someone got in and matriculated at Yale. Last year, another student got in and matriculated at Yale.

I know, on average, I have better stats than the student who got in last year. Will this help me, then?

^ Will this help me?

To Olive Tree : I hope yes !

Oh man, intra-school competition sucks...
I know at least two others applying from my school. No one has ever applied before, either. I hate it because it is akin to competition now; one the applicants is a girl I had a nasty breakup with.

Well, I really hope this helps me.

(Fingers crossed!)

Yeah, unfortunately we had a kid last year who got in and didn't go, only applied for the hell of it. But know I'm worried that that could hurt me. But at my school, two of us applied SCEA and I was deferred while she was rejected. Now I'm freaking out because like five or six of my friends are applying to. =X We try not to talk about it though.

Calm down.. over 100 kids from my school are applying to Yale .. sucks

rb3, what kind of school do you go to? I think when you apply from a public school that hasn't ever sent students to the Ivies, competition between even just a few students can be a big deal.

100?! I'm one of only 2 people applying at my school of 1400 people.

Do regional admission officers change from year to year or are they the same for the most part?

I'd hope they stay the same so they can get to know the schools well.

I hope they're familiar with what typical grades are at a school, because my weighted GPA is a little under 4.9, and pretty much every valedictorian and salutatorian from my school is around there... but last year's val had over a 5.1 (A+'s in half his classes?) and went to Yale, so the mortals applying from my school look ridiculously weak.

I think we usually have 5 or so people apply to Yale. Definitely not more than that. One kid 5 or 6 years ago I think got in and did well...but I don't think anyone has been accepted since. Bad sign?

There'll probably be around 5 kids to apply to Yale next year as well..

I hope I get to meet the regional admissions officer sometime!
