Hi erin’s Dad
But I think it’d be really interesting in terms of 50/50 schools - ie, schools that aren’t too selective yet produce a lot of PHDs, meaning quality of education is very high compared to level at entrance, and the atmosphere perhaps more serious/studious/academic than usual.
Schools that I know like that would be Earlham or St Olaf.

I would love to have the rates for grad school. But not only do some schools not have it available, it’s not available for downloading and I’m not that ambitious yet. Maybe as the new “accountability” requirements come online, we’ll get something in the area.

This week, acceptance rates. It may seem a weird thing to do but the reasons are usually clearer on my blog, I just post the data here. The interesting thing is how little they actually count for in the ratings. And as far as 50-50 schools go, the most change from year to year comes from those with the lower acceptance rates since they’ll fall below the cut-off one year and make it the next year.

A look at Asian/Pacific Islander population. 50-50 schools with the highest percentage of Asian/Pacific Islanders and those with the highest six year graduation rate. When I was looking through the data, I found that among 50-50 schools, the Asian/Pacific Islander graduation rate was more likely to be lower than the general rate than above it.

SB has a large rural campus that is quite beautiful in the foothills of the Blue Ridge. It is not far from Lynchburg and Charlottesville which offer more things to do. Not familiar with others.

Not a true 50-50 list this week. I’m including all public universities with a 5 year graduation rate of 49% or better regardless of admission rates. Of the 180 schools that qualify, 35 had acceptance rates of less than 50%.

I’m not completely sure about the Penn State question. By IPEDS definition anyone who transfers is not counted in the graduation rates. However, I could see where such students aren’t counted as transfers for IPEDS purposes which may be possible given the percentage of Penn State schools with high graduation rates (relatively speaking,)

I’m surprised there isn’t any OOS love for the SUNYs, based on price if for no other reason. And what’s with NH? Do they have excess capacity compared to their population?

Erin’s Dad, you’re right about New Hampshire. It’s a low population state located in one of the most densely populated regions of the US. Additionally, the NH higher ed system recieves an almost comically low level of funding from the state legislature since there’s no state or income tax, only property tax. As a result, the universities in New Hampshire are extremely reliant on OOS students just to continue to operate.

This week is a listing of the most expensive private 50-50 schools by average net price after gift aid.
