I remember reading somewhere a while ago of a book (or books) of musical theatre songs that could be played by a...less than accomplished pianist. Daughter is a fairly new piano student who is learning to accompany herself (mostly using chord progressions), but I would love to find her some sheet music/books with easy accompaniments for her birthday. Anybody have recommendations???

Look at sheetmusicplus.com or musicnotes.com

Possibly “The Ultimate Broadway Fake Book”? It contains a large collection of well-known and some not so well-known B’dway showtunes, with easy, but accurate, accompaniment music.

Also: The 16-Bar Theatre Audition Book - - includes accompaniment music for well-known show-tunes, already cut to 16 bars.

Both available on Amazon.com. The 16-Bar Theatre Audition Book is available for females and males, soprano and alto voices, etc

More experienced kids might generally prefer to do their own 16-bar cuts, but either or both of the above songbooks might be great for a newer student and/or a novice pianist who’d like to accompany herself sometimes.

Hope this helps!

Well-stocked music stores often have “easy piano” versions of Broadway shows. They include accurate but simplified piano accompaniments.
