So, freshman, sophomore, and part of junior year, I got bad grades. Second semester Junior year, I buckled up and got myself together. The twist is, that my course load was extremely difficult and my extracurricular activities are very good.

Your grades show a clear and consistent improvement. I wouldn’t worry about your grades, unless you apply to a school like UCB. I am not completely familiar with the schools you listed, but based on your ECs and grade improvement, you should be able to match Georgia Tech and CMU. All you need is a great SAT score to prove your improving grades. Good luck!

Carnegie Mellon University- high match (unless it’s the school of computer science, then reach)
UNC(Instate)- low match
University of Notre Dame- high match (vague guess, I don’t know much about this school
Georgia Tech - match (same as above)

To be honest, I think your grades will harm you a bit, but as the person before me said, they show good improvement. You have great extra curriculars, and your load is extremely rigorous. So I think overall you’re in pretty good shape (but I do think your case is pretty peculiar and I’m not quite sure how to chance you, but I gave it my best shot).

ACT scores look great, and I think it’s important to put an emphasis on that weighted, it shows rigor. Try to acquire leadership roles and I think you’re definitely on your way!

My aunt is an admissions officer and she has told me that grades are of utmost importance. HOWEVER, your rigor is impressive. You have a chance at all, but CMU is a low reach.

Georgia Tech for sure. Your ACT is great and so is your rigor.
being in-state for UNC may help but GPA probably needs to be a bit higher.
Overall, your ECs, rigor, and ACT make up for the few bad grades. Like most have said, the upward trend is good!
