<p>Hi, I'm starting my search for colleges, and I would like to major in music business/music industry. I specifically would hope to be an A&R scout for a label. I don't want a super expensive school. I also know that a lot of labels are in the LA area, so I would like a college in that area. If your suggestion isn't in that area, that's just fine. I need as many suggestions as I can get! If you care to know, I have a 3.9 GPA. Thanks!</p>
<p>Drexel has its own record label, Mad Dragon. Students do it all.</p>
<p>Thank you. I appreciate the suggestion. (:</p>
<p>Check out University of Miami Frost School of Music.</p>
<p>There are several threads related to this in the music majors forum [Music</a> Major - College Confidential](<a href=“http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/music-major/]Music”>Music Major - College Confidential Forums). Good luck!</p>
<p>Belmont University (good for all music genres in the music bus. not just country)</p>
<p>There are several colleges on the east coast, NYU (its actually called clive davis recording in the Tisch school of arts), Drexel university, SUNY oneonta, Northeastern U has something too,and another in Nashville ( you have to google it ). West coast theres musicians institute but i really have no info on that.
We live on the east coast so searched more here. Applied to 3 of the above (drexel and SUNY O) admitted to both pretty much the same GPA as you. My son decided to go with Drexel. He’s a freshman there this year. Its expensive (50,000+) but a good scholarship (23,000) plus wanted a urban school and alot of venues in Philly = connections and opportunities. Alot of the prof were/are in the industry. plus their own record label, mgmt co, etc that the student run plus a co-op program to get experience. they do alot of co-ops in NYC and LA so to him the connections were the key.Plus the school name/ program is very well known in the industry.
My advise is visit the schools on open house days, they do a good job presenting info and letting you talk to professors and students. we thought the biggest factor was connections and the experience you get.
good luck!!</p>
