I'm looking for a summer program abroad in spain (for a rising senior in high school). I'm looking for the program to be a homestay, somewhere around 5 weeks, give or take (mainly I'd rather it be longer than shorter), and I'd also like to get college credit. Has anyone been on one of these before that wants to give me some insight?

Not sure if you can get college credit from these programs. My children attended during summer after freshman year of high school. Their high school offered a placement test on first day of class and both were placed in AP Spanish after the summer program. They had taken 2 years of Spanish in middle school and 2 in high school (block schedule).

They are both in college now, and at their colleges (Yale and Carnegie Mellon) students are required to take foreign language placement test before enrolling unless they have a 5 on AP test. So you may not receive credit but be able to place in a advanced class in college, and you can also take the AP test and aim for a 5 :)

There are other threads about summer programs in Spain at CC, try search.

I’m actually currently in AP Spanish Language, and plan on taking AP Spanish Literature next year. Do you think I would benefit from any of these?

AFS is a great program for exchanges all over the world. The organization itself dates back to World War II, and they have a great support network in all corners of the globe. I was hosted by AFS when I spent my summer in Turkey in 2010, and I really liked it.

this string is dated. anyone who has been to one of these programs have a recommendation? my daughter is looking for a strong academic program with nice kids and not much drinking.
