I have been reading cc forums for several months now but this is actually the first time I am posting any sort of message…to Wiscokid, I would be kind of wary re: Weslayan…it is known to be extremely liberal, hippie-type, lots of gay/lesbian…don’t know if that’s your style but our guidance counselor swayed us away from Weslayan. Nice location, not too far from Hartford, New Haven, but you may be happier elsewhere.

I will also add that if you are looking for good Econ programs, check out Trinity College in Hartford…not in the greatest area of town, but college itself is beautiful. Also, Hamilton College (in NY?) and maybe Union. I’ve also heard great things about Lafayette, Bucknell and a few others in the Pennsylvania area…hope that helps.

Wisco kid,

Economics at Lafayette one of the strongest majors (and largest). Building donated by William Simon, Secretary of the Treasury and graduate. Lovely campus in a reasonable proximity to Philadelphia and New York.

Endicott, glad you liked F and M. President is a Lafayette college classmate of mine. He has done a terrific job and it is also a very nice program.

Best of luck with the hunting!

I’d heard good things about F and M’s president. It does seem very nice!

“our guidance counselor swayed us away from Weslayan”

I sure hope those weren’t the reasons given!

John Fry recently accepted the presidency of Drexel University.

After researching all the recommendations, it really seems that Claremont McKenna really fits me. It has strong academics, a big party scene, athletic students, great location, many resources for undergraduate research, and good financial aid. If anyone has any insights to McKenna, Pomona, or Pitzer it would be much appreciated

Vossron…our guidance counselor knows my child very well and did not think that Wesleyan would be a good match, or “fit” as they say. Wesleyan has an excellent reputation, in fact we have a cousin that graduated from there and was very happy there. I guess the college searching public just needs to know more about what the website tells you and that’s just from talking to people. It depends on what Wiscokid is looking for. There are so many wonderful choices. Going to see the school while school is in session and maybe talking to students there is the very best way to know if the school would be a good “fit”.

^ Sorry, I thought you were a student, and “us” referred to the class; my mistake. Welcome! :)

I don’t know a lot about Pamona or Pitzer but all of what you decribe that you are looking for can be found at CMC. You can always apply to all 3 and really explore whereever youare accepted.

Your SAT scores need to go way up for Pomona.

Claremont McKenna has the reputation for being the least quirky (i.e., most “well-rounded”) of the Claremont Colleges; something like a third of the student body is enrolled in it’s Finance division:http://www.claremontmckenna.edu/rdschool/discover/

Btw, Wesleyan also has a wrestling team (#3 in New England DIII): <a href=“Wesleyan University - Official Athletics Website”>Wesleyan University - Official Athletics Website; and, its party scene is not too shabby (the only NESCAC college with fraternities; theme houses; indigenous indie music-scene.)

I think you have a decent shot at both.
