Ok so the search for a new digital camera commences. I'm looking for a fairly small to medium sized one with 3X digital zoom and a decent resolution. My knowledge of digital cams is pretty fuzzy, so whats a good resolution to get if I want to compromise on price and quality? Also, I'd like to keep the cost down (is less than $200 unreasonable)?

I have a Canon A75, which I bought for $200, but I believe you can purchase it for less now. I love it!

Go on E-Bay. Better yet, just get a camera phone. I have no qualms with my camera phone from Verizon.

Just be sure you aren't getting screwed on megapixels. You don't want say, a camera phone...

Wait before you buy are you sure you just want a camera to take "pictures" or do you want to get into photography?

check out the nikon cool pix and canon elph sd110

I decided on the elph b/c my son wanted something that would fit in his pocket, he likes it a lot - if size wasn't an issue i probably would have gotten the nikon

Im just interested in "taking pictures", not developing a photography hobby. Therefore, I need something somewhat smaller, with high enough resolution to get satisfactory pictures (ultra high quality not an issue, but grainy fuzz is), and a reasonable price.

Sony has the best digital cameras. I have one with 6X digital zoom, 3.2 megapixels. It's the Cyber-Shot. We got it for around 2 or 3 hundred..it'll be much cheaper now though. The only gripe I have is that it uses battery quickly and you have to recharge it..but anything from sony is awesome.
