Looking for a new Music Industry program...

Hello, all.

I'm currently a student at University of Memphis majoring in Music Industry (music business concentration) at the Rudi E. Schiedt School of Music. The problem is that I hate it. I basically chose the program to develop myself as an artist and businessman, as I want to enter the industry myself. I feel like that is not happening and that my time and talent are being squandered, and this has sent me into a depression and made my academic performance more poor than it would be if I were in better spirits. Also, Memphis is my hometown, and I've been here all my life - I REALLY feel that it is time to leave.

I suppose my question is where are GOOD, affordable programs in better cities with more opportunities? A state university would seem to be the best bet, as my GPA currently sits right below 3.0. I just know I really want to get out of here. As soon as possible.

Also, I play piano and placed into Music Theory II if that helps at all.

Eager to move to a new area of the country? Check out Minnesota State University Moorhead. The music industry program in the Music Department is very solid. Graduates do very well. It’s just three hours from the Twin Cities, which is terrific. And it will be affordable.

MTSU has a very strong program and it’s graduates do well, particularly in the Nashville scene. My son really liked the Drexel program and director as a good second tier. Tuition is at the high end, but they can be generous with awards.

Don’t let your grades slip, because it will reduce your chances of transferring! Have a look at the program at the College of St. Rose. It is in Albany, NY, but the professors have connections in NYC. Also five Towns College and William Paterson might be worth a look. Both are near NYC.

I like these ideas so far! Drexel came up on Google - I found myself very interested since it’s in Philadelphia. I’d really like a bigger, more active city not too far away. (Dallas and Cincinnati were my first thoughts, but I’ve had a hard time finding academic options there let alone picking one.) And MTSU has always been an option but I feel like it might too close.

Anything else?

So why is the Drexel Music Industry program not available to transfer students?

Why not Belmont? Nashville is very different from Memphis.

I’m thinking Belmont might be a little on the expensive side, and they might be too selective for me and my 2.6. Nashville/Murfreesboro is an option, but I really want something new.
