I’m having trouble finding a good safety school, so maybe CC people can help?
Major: political science and English
ACT: 31 (32 Superscore)
GPA: 4.1 weighted, 3.84 unweighted
Several APs and weighted classes, a lot of volunteering at my church, and dedicated ECs.
The schools I’m currently planning to apply to: Georgetown, UChicago, NYU, George Washington, American, WashU
So you can see why my parents are worried I don’t have a safety school yet. I know my chances at these schools are pretty slim, but I can’t find a safety school I would be ok going to. Any recommendations?
Drake University in Des Moines. Alright, I know it’s Iowa, but you’d get to participate in the caucus hoopla leading up to the 2020 elections. With rolling EA admissions and nice merit possibilities it might give you a financially safe acceptance as early as October.

Your chances at American are pretty good, but I wouldn’t call it a safety. Are you applying to Arts & Sciences at NYU? If so, it’s probably a high-match for you, if you don’t need financial aid;Stern would be a reach, though. I’d say the same for GWU. Your list is very troublesome if you need any financial assistance, because I don’t know whether you’d get a lot of financial aid from any of those schools.
Temple is an obvious safety for people looking at large, urban schools. Even for out-of-staters, it’s significantly less expensive than NYU or GWU, and you might get some merit aid. You also have a shot at their Honors program.Philly is a much more affordable city than NYC or DC, furthermore.
Pitt is probably a match for you, but less generous with merit aid.
Seconding Drake!
More of a match (because you don’t have safeties NOR matches), Gettysburg, St Lawrence, St. Olaf and Dickinson.
Run the npc on these, as well as for
UScranton (superb campus and facilities), St Michael’s (top college town), Kalamazoo (tops for international studies and excellent political science), Willamette (well-known for political science, internships at state capitol), Allegheny.
