Looking for advice on growing healthcare professions and degrees...

Hi, 27 years old looking to return back to college. I currently have a bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice and Business Administration. I have worked five year’s in various healthcare field’s. Right now I am working in psychiatric/behavioral health, but the pay and the work is burning me out. I enjoy the work a lot, but think it is something I want to continue on a per diem and volunteer basis. I want to continue working in healthcare, but not sure which direction to go and what program to go back to school for.

Everyone and their mother are becoming nurse’s and physician assistants, but don’t seem interested in those field’s. Not that I don’t want to deal with patient’s I rather go into a field of healthcare that involves working with different types of medical equipment. I did about eight month’s working with anesthesia machine’s, different gas tanks, IV pumps, and electrical monitor’s probably was my favorite job I have had in my healthcare career. I currently enjoy doing EKGS and Venipunctures.

I was considering medical technologist, but there is only two accredited program’s in the state and one non accredited program in the state. Also from what people say about the profession shines a negative outlook on it. Any advice feedback on program’s should consider be much appreciative.

Thanks for the responses have a good one!

  1. Perfusionist (BS/MS)
  2. Anesthesia Technician
  3. Surgical technologists
  4. Dialysis Patient Care Technician
  5. CRNA (MS/DNP)

I recommend biomedical engineering or
Rehab engineering. Both have a strong clinical component . Another great profession which is not readily heard about is orthotist / prosthetist . They fabricate prostheses for example artificial
limbs. Because the people needing your services have just experienced a life changing event , your experience working in psychiatry would be an asset.

Appreciate the feedback I worked an 8 month stint as an Anesthesia Technician was an awesome job, was the one described earlier. Not sure if I could be a surgical technician. I did sterile processing an it was too much biomass.

I was looking into bio engineering technician, but rarely see any job openings. Is med lab technologist really that bad? Figure if I can achieve the degree be making about $60,000 a year and can be a lead tech if I get my master’s in forensics open up some doors for me.

Thanks a lot for share.
