Looking for Advice on MFA directing

I am currently a BA Theatre student at a public university. During my three years here, (after the amazing opportunities at my school) I have directed three one-act plays and taken two directing courses. Now that I am getting closer to graduation (Fall 2010), I am finding that I would like to get an MFA in directing. While my school has offered me great opportunities to direct, they are not so great with the whole advising thing.

I also know I want this degree, my goal for my career path is to direct and teach at the college level. I did an independent study in Theatre Education during my last semester at a high school, I loved the actual teaching but not the level of study. But I don't think I would want to just teach.

I know that many schools want to see you working for a bit prior to applying. I also know that the schools I am interested in (Boston University, Brown, Columbia, Carnegie Mellon) only accept about 2 students per year.

So... other than working to get a good internship, and obviously calling the schools and trying to prod for some kind of hints.... does anyone know how I can make myself more attractive to them?

Does anyone have any thoughts?
