Background:
Current SAT Score: 1990
Math: 760
Critical Reading: 620
Writing: 610 (Essay-7)
I’m a current Junior interested in applying to colleges for Computer Engineering. My main concern is which tests I should sign up for on the remaining dates (June, October etc.)
I am not sure which colleges I would like to apply for, but I hear that is it definitely important to take the subject tests. As an Engineer, I would likely be taking Math 2 and Chemistry (have not yet taken Physics). I also feel that I could likely raise my current SAT score and would like to take it one more time. My question for you all is if I should take the regular SAT in June, or the Subject Tests? And then do the other in October? If anyone has any advice on this (including timing of tests, latest you can take them, etc.) I would appreciate it!
My general advice is to take the subject tests in June while the course material is fresh in your mind. I can’t tell from your post whether you are taking Chem now. If so, you should definitely take the subject test now so you don’t have to brush up on Chem in the fall while you are dealing with senior year courses and college applications. From your math score on SAT 1, it sounds like you are a strong math student so SAT 2 should be okay with some practice. Over the summer, I would work on vocab and grammar to boost your CR and Writing scores. For vocab, my daughter used a combination of Direct Hits, Princeton Review and another book. And do practice tests. 10 full length practice tests if possible. For writing, try to come up with 2 to 5 stock subjects that you can write about in response to most essay prompts. For grammar, people seem to swear by Ericka Meltzer.
