So i'm currently an 8th grader and would like to seek advice from some of you that have experience self studying APs.
My schedule next year most likely will look like this:
Biology Honors
German I/Spanish II
9th Honors Lit
AP Human Geo
AP Euro
Accelerated Analytic Geometry B/Advanced Algebra (Thing before Pre-Calc)
AP Psych/Band
Since my school allows one to take social APs without prerequisites they will be what i am self-studying. I'm loking to study AP world, AP USH, and possibly AP Macro. However this all depends on the difficulty of self studying an AP, and which are easy/hard. Do you think this might be too much for my freshman year, or should i go for it?

I don’t understand. How does self-studying APs have to do with the school allowing to take AP classes?

Is it really necessary to have six AP classes as a freshman?

It is way too much (which I think you know). Three APs in the classroom is plenty for a freshman while you are adjusting to high school. What are you up to with extra curricular activities? I would suggest you read this book by Cal Newport: “How to be a High School Superstar: A Revolutionary Plan to Get Into College by Standing Out (Without Burning Out).” Instead of trying to scale the “I have the most AP’s” mountain, consider other ways of making yourself stand out.

good luck studying AP world as a freshman. it is difficult even with a teacher.

3 AP classes for a freshman is too much, IMHO. 6 with 3 of them being self-studies is NOT want you want. Freshman year is supposed to be an easy year; do NOT self study if you care about your sanity and having a chance of any free time during the year.

Take them all if you want to go to Harvard. By the end of high school, you must take all the AP classes that Collegeboard has.

Freshman year should not be ‘easy’ but instead of 6 aps take 3 max and go do some good interesting extracurriculars. They matter a lot for colleges.

Wow, I’m in 8th grade too but 3 aps already seems like a lot and then adding on another 3 would seriously not be the way to go. I should know, my cousin did something similar and actually ended up scoring really low on the exams.
