looking for advice

Right now I am planning on taking Orgo lecture and lab (4 credits) Bio lec and lab (4 creds) Calc 3 (4 credits) and a greek and roman mythology class (3 creds) next semester, totaling 15.
I am considering taking international studies 101 (3 creds) to fulfill one of my colleges required core courses.
Would 18 credits be manageable ?

What school and can you breeze through labs or do you have to work for them?

St. Bonaventure. The bio labs require alot of work, having to do reports on them. Not sure about orgo lab.

18 hours used to be expected. It’s what everyone took to finish in 4 years. At some point, students started taking 12 credits freshman year and thinking 12-15 was enough after that, and finishing in 5 years was fine. So, speaking on behalf of your parents’ generation, of course 18 credits is manageable. It will be a lot of work, but college is supposed to be a lot of work.

what you say makes a lot of sense. The man on top of the mountain did not fall there.

This could go either way with 2 lab courses and a 3 credit International Studies class that might be a handful.

Science and engineering majors take multiple lab courses every semester, plus calculus and if they’re lucky, a humanities class. Plenty of students are taking such heavy loads. @steelheadking, you can always sign up for the 18 hours and then drop one class early in the semester if you can’t handle the load.

What year are you in college? How have you done in previous courses? If this is your second year, use your first year to gauge how much you can handle. If this is your first year, did you complete a lot of AP courses? Were they easy for you?

How much students can handle depends a lot on the student. Some students are able to handle 18 credits with no problems, while other students really struggle. Will you have other responsibilities (work, volunteering, clubs, etc)? 18 credits is certainly doable, but it may or may not be the best decision for you depending on your situation. If you do take 18 credits, make sure you know what the drop deadline is so you can drop if you think it’s too much. Take a look at the syllabi as well, at the beginning of the courses, to see what the workload will be like.

@baktrax I’m in my spring semester of freshman year. I think i like the idea of taking 18 and then still being able to drop first week. I dont have a ton of other responsibilities outside of schoolwork so that helps.
