Looking for an appropriate scholarship

Hello College Confidential community,

I am an international SAT student. I have scored 1750 on the SAT; 690 on mathematics, 650 on writing, and 410 on critical reading. I have been searching for an international scholarship but haven’t gathered sufficient information on it, so I seek someone’s explanation about Scholarship costs, What will I have to pay for? I mean, will I have to pay for the flight tickets, renting flats, etc? Need some explanation please.

Note: I expect to score 1900 on December 5 SAT Test, If you do know some appropriate scholarship for a student whose score is in the range of 1750-1900, please write here explaining it. Thank you in advance…

If I posted in the wrong section of the forums, please excuse me and move it to the right one

Hi,
So, some key things are a full ride scholarship will pay for tuition, your room, your food and your fees. But, they wouldn’t pay for your airfare. You should apply to grants for that. A full tuition scholarship will only pay tuition (your room and food will be yours to pay). Lesser merit scholarships will pay part of your tuition but nothing else. Also, nearly all schools in the US require you to live on campus as a freshman so you won’t be renting flats but living in student dorms. I can’t tell you which scholarships you meet the criteria for without knowing your GPA.

Most scholarships are given by the individual universities, but international students may not qualify for many since the federal and state governments fund the programs for their residents.

There are only six universities that fund students that are need blind, and they are the most competitive schools to gain admission. Your SAT scores suggest that you would not be admitted to these schools.

It’s on you to find an affordable school where you could gain admission. Use your EducationUSA resource in your country to get help.

Thanks for your responses, I got it.

When you look at colleges, search for ‘COA’ or Cost of Attendance. In theory, you could get merit or need aid up to this amount. There will often be some estimate liste there for travel but not enough to cover you completely, likely. In practice it is very hard to get all your costs covered. Usually just getting all your tuition paid is an accomplishment…

A note on housing: The COA will include cost of dorming on campus with a standard meal plan. If you want to live off campus, which might be cheaper, you will have to arrange that yourself. Obviously that will be easier to do if you live on campus the first year. You will be present to learn how people rent shared apartments or flats, or find rooms for rent in houses.

Thanks @BrownParent!

Just another question, Out-of-state is out of united states? I mean, for international students?

For international students all public Us are out of state (meaning you pay the higher cost). Public Us are supported by state funds (state such as New York or California) and students from that state get a discount on tuition.
