Parents, please help me find an old thread where..........

people talked about changing their mind after doing college visits - it was a great thread.

I have looked high and low but cannot find it even through google!

I remember it was very interesting because many said that colleges high on their kids list was scratched off after visiting.

We are planning to travel from half the world across for college visits and would love to read that thread again, thanks all!

Was it this one?

If it was older, the post are a little harder to find…that’s why I bookmark them sometimes.

Be careful though with basing things on others opinions or a couple of students that acted stupid. Sometimes, if you visit, your gut is the best predictor, but you can just catch other things on a bad day. My son loved Drew when he visited twice, but if you watched the Collegiate Choice tour video, it was awful and it wouldn’t make you want to visit. My nieces friend visted H.Cross and had a so-so tour, stayed overnight and it was awful. She went because it gave her the best aid and loved it…she even volunteered to be a host for overnights so they wouldn’t have her experience.
So they are fun to read, some give you info to ponder over, but be careful not to let 1 opinion change your interest.

Thank You Deb, this is the one!

I agree with you that some posts need to be taken lightly. Will skim through it to get some basic impressions. We won’t be able to visit many colleges and it is hard as it is to get a feel without going there.

I understand what you mean. We can’t visit some, just don’t have the extra cash to spend money getting there, but would if they are accepted with good aid. I know the colleges like interest, but I’m hoping if they write and tell them they would love to visit but can’t write now, they will still “be on the radar”. I just can’t see spending hundreds to visit a college when I don’t know if they will be accepted. The only time I would is if it was a BIG favorite and they had a great chance of being accepted, but then I would schedule a day visit when college was in session to spend the day as my son did. That way the money spent isn’t just on a tour and info session, over in an hour when it took 6 to get there! : )
