Hi guys. I'm 17 years old, and in the past two years, I've built a new company from the ground up, with 2013 revenues of over $2 million USD. The business is a network of eCommerce sites, with about 10 employees or so, some part time, some full time. I did this with about $2000 in starting capital, and I've documented much of the process. I now make $190k a year from my websites, and I've also done some successful investing and trading of equities.

I did this myself, with little outside help, and am the full shareholder and president of a registered corporation.

HOWEVER, as a result of this, my school results are not stellar, and are above average at best.

I have moderate to good participation in school clubs, and an average of 88-89 or so, counting 3 AP courses.

I do realize that my grades are very medicore when applying for competitive schools such as Stanford or Harvard, but I'm wondering if my company will play a large role at all.

For people that are involved in the process, will my company be effective at all in achieving a favorable position for admission to the top business schools in the US? If not, would it help me achieve entry to a business school such as Schulich or Ivey where the average of accepted students is 92-93?

I live in Ontario, Canada.

Thank you.

I’m assuming it’ll help you, since this is a significant extracurricular. But no one can say for sure… I do want to congratulate you on an excellent job with your company! Good luck, you seem to be set on a track to do great things

You’ll probably get into any business school you apply to. Actually I have a hard time thinking of a school that would reject a self-made entrepreneur who’s already making 190k. Don’t expect much in terms of financial aid though.

You are a solid candidate for any management school. When you are making $190k a year, I m sure you have all the doc to prove it. Just write a strong personal statement with this experience and you should be in.

Thanks for the help, would the “any school” statement apply to places such as Stanford or Harvard Business School?

Would anyone else be able to offer an opinion?

Stanford and Harvard business school are graduate schools, not undergrad.

ANYWAY, that’s a huge extra curricular and you’ll likely be able to get into most colleges that offer undergrad business degrees. Stanford and Harvard? Maybe, if your test scores are up to par. NYU Stern would be a great bet…they love money :)

How much money do you have for yourself as of now? That’s a lot man…190k is pretty insane for somebody our age! I’m looking to release my own company within the next year but I have no start up money or web developers to help me out lol :(

Graduate schools, eh?

Would I be able to get in for something like economics or finance to those two using my company?

I’ve saved around $175k in the past 15 months, and I also have a $35k or so RESP for post-secondary. Should be more than enough for a degree at most/all american schools if I choose to go down there, right?

If you’re willing to, PM the company idea you have, I’m curious if I’ll be able to help in any way.
