I'm looking for the best apartments close to the UNC campus. I would put my budget at around $800-900 and would prefer to have a 2 bedroom apartment, but any would work. What apartments would you recommend?

Probably not going to get the “best” for that price range, though you can find some that are decent. I would start here:

And also cross-reference with this report:

Honestly, at this date you will have a much harder time finding an open unit. You should also look at Carrboro and South/West Durham.

You may have to up your rent expectations to around $1000 to find a spot close to campus that isn’t crime ridden or bug infested.

What do you mean by ‘close’ to campus? Walking distance? Free bus ride?

Thanks for the replies and sorry for not being more clear. By close I mean anywhere within about 4-5 miles of campus. And when I said $800 I meant that I am willing to pay $800. I’m hoping to stay with a roommate so if we split the costs then that would mean my overall apartment budget would be around $1600.

It’s not an easy task to find housing off-campus not necessarily due to space, but because there are so many options and you want to move into a place you can call home. I also sympathize with your question and probable frustration… you just want someone to tell you which community is the “one”. However, I’ve found this pursuit fruitless, as everyone has negative and positive things to say about nearly every apartment complex in the area. About the only way to find the best apartment for you is to at least use the web-based listings to visit each community’s website, look up amenities, prices, etc and start scratching them off the list. When you’ve narrowed it to around five, then go look at them in person. I’m sorry if I am coming across as condescending, but I was in your spot several years ago and realized that what people were recommending were not a good fit for me.

Perhaps if you come back with a list of apartments, we can give a nod to them or steer you away.

Good luck

$1600 for a 2 bedroom is luxury in this area.

Thanks for the help! I’m looking a little more closely at The Warehouse and Alta Springs because they both have very good locations for me. Any opinions on these two? I’m completely new to the area and don’t really know anything about either one so any opinions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

A friend of mine loves staying at The Warehouse, HOWEVER he is not very focused on his academics (straight from his mouth) and says it’s a heavy party place with something always going on.
