Looking for better Computer Engineering programs

I am a sophomore at Cal Poly SLO and am thinking about transferring. I like the school, so I am only interested in transferring to schools that would have a better program in computer engineering, however I am having problems finding better programs because Cal Poly is only ever compared to universities without a Doctorate. I have a 3.3 GPA with only serious classes (math, physics, CS, and EE). and ECs are Robotics and IEEE. Some of the schools i was thinking of are UIUC, Purdue, and UMich (big reach but why not?) . Do ihave a chance at any of these, and are there any schools that i looked over?

I don't know too much about chances at UIUC, but Purdue and UMich are among the more "by the numbers" schools. They are also schools where having taken the right courses for Engineering transfer is pretty important, which it appears you have.

Check the Purdue website if you haven't; sometimes transfer into certain of the Engineering majors is closed. Apply early as one or both of these schools have rolling type admissions.

As I recall, those schools use your SAT scores, so gauging your chances might mean comparing yours to their medians and ranges.

Good luck.
Although Cal Poly SLO has quite a strong reputation, so maybe you'll be fine staying there if the transfer options don't work out? Note also that if you are a California resident, the cost of moving to one of these other schools will be big $$$$. Is that really worth it to you?

I am a California resident so price is an issue, but if the programs are significantly better I would prefer to transfer. I know Cal Poly has a strong reputation for engineering, but I would like to know how it really holds up against universities that offer a doctorate. And how significant would the change be? Would I even notice the difference or would transferring help me get into grad school?

Your chances at UIUC are slim. 3.7+ would give you a better shot at UIUC ECE.

Why do you want to transfer anyway? Cal Poly SLO has superb reputation among engineering circles.

With a 3.3 GPA I think you will find it difficult to "upgrade," at least not enough to justify cost.
