Looking for British universities

To be accepted into a university in the UK, would one have to have an excellent academic record, or are they more lenient than that?

How would I find a British university that is right for me? There are searches, such as in collegeboard.com, which lets me find American universities that fit my taste. However, I can’t find any such thing for British universities…

Google 'the Student Room'. It's a board just like this, but primarily devoted to the United Kingdom.

First of all, British universities have very early application deadlines. I think they are in October of Senior year.

Secondly, British universities will want to see successful results on AP exams before considering an applicant and even then, acceptances are almost always conditional. So ideally, a US applicant would have taken 3-4 AP exams during her/his Junior year, getting scores of 5s or 4s. Furthermore, an applicant should have another 3-4 AP exams in the pipeline for the end of their senior year and British universities will give a conditional acceptance based on the results of those AP exams (most likely a healthy mix of 5s and 4s.

So, let us say you wish to major in Engineering. British universities will want to see a 5 in AP Calculus AB and 4s or 5s in 2 or 3 other AP exams (preferably Physics B and some other AP) before you apply in October.

Furthermore, they want to know that you are preparing for AP Calculus BC and they will expect a score of at least 4, if not 5 on the exam. Furthermore, they will probably expect a very solid AP score in Chemistry and Physics (preferably AP Physics C).

Oxford and Cambridge has deadlines in October. Most other applications are due in early January, I think.

In addition to Phoenix Wright's suggestion, you might try investigating study abroad websites. I recently had to search through lots of British universities for study abroad, and there are some very helpful sites out there with great info about each university. The league tables are also a place to start:

It's important to keep in mind that financial aid for international students is virtually nonexistent; you should expect to pay full freight. This can be pretty expensive, especially in places like London.
