Looking for Colleges to Transfer to

Transferring from UMiami direct med, realized medicine is not for me and I don’t really like the school.
From Michigan
Possibly Interested in business/Econ but still undecided
Current freshman in college

College GPA: 3.5 (16 credits completed: bio 1, chem 1, eng 2, micro Econ) will complete 32 credits by the end of this year

High School GPA: 3.5 UW 4.02W

College EC: competitive Dance team, student government, volunteering, research

High School EC: 2 varsity sports, over 300 hours volunteering, multiple clubs with leadership positions, summer business camps, research, tutoring/retail jobs

Schools I am thinking about right now;
Michigan(waitlisted then accepted last year)
Cornell( rejected last year)
Vanderbilt( didn’t apply last year)
USC( rejected last year)

Those schools are not easy to get into, especially for business (Vandy doesn’t have undergrad business). Check out Indiana, Wisconsin, Boston U., Iowa, Purdue, Southern Methodist, U of Denver. All have good businesss programs & I think would be easier to get into.

Look up number of transfer students accepted in each school. Because you are from Michigan, I would apply there, as its a great price for you. Ross is an amazing business school ,but Arts and Sciencew would be easier to get admitted to and study economics. It would be OK to study math and economics and go get an MBA later.
If you want an MBA, it is a very good idea to go to a competitive undergraduate school where you can get a good job in accounting, management consulting, or finance for a few years, as MBA programs rarely take students straight from undergrad.

U of Denver is respected in the west, its getting surpassed by Leeds School of Business at U of Colorado Boulder.
But I would not study business in the state of Colorado, unless you want to work in Los Angeles or Colorado. There are not many ties to Chicago or NYC, stay east for business, or go west.

Vanderbilt is good if you want to land in Washington DC.
Look up stats for transfers though, it may be very very tough, but it all depends on how many flunk outs
Vanderbilt has, the previous year, and they do flunk out quite a few
Vanderbilt has an undergrad major in human resources, that leads to business related jobs.

Vanderbilt offers a higher rate of admission to transfers than to first year freshmen.

I’d suggest Richmond and W&M has excellent schools with excellent business schools. I know W&M is fairly transfer friendly. I know a recent transfer into W&M, and the transfer went great! Not sure about Richmond but you seem like a good candidate. Good luck!

Do you need aid? Some schools don’t give great aid to transfers. Some are need-aware for transfers.

If you applied to those schools and nothing has drastically changed, you stand to get the same results.
Agree with @mom2collegekids, transfers tend to get very little FA.

I would be surprised if you could get into Cornell as a transfer. To me it looks like a reach.

Michigan is an obvious one to apply to. I would think that Michigan State would also be one to apply to (although I am not familiar with specific programs there).

What is your budget?

Michigan is just the obvious choice and being instate it’s a bargain compared to just about any other school. Ross is very competitive especially for transfer students but you don’t need Ross to be successful in business. Plenty of others avenues at Michigan can lead you there.
